Inside an $11,000-Per-Night Cruise Ship Suite

Any time you’re in your room, you’re steps away from your own personal outdoor oasis… designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views. Carnival Jubilee does not have a specific daytime dress code, and people dress casually. If it's a sea day in a warm-weather destination, and you're bound for the top deck, T-shirts, shorts and bathing suits (with a cover-up to go inside) are just fine.

Cruise Radio prioritizes well-balanced cruise news coverage and accurate reporting, paired with ship reviews and tips. Although small, the bathroom was well designed to utilize the space. We found there to be plenty of storage between the shelves and counter, along with space in the shower to also store cosmetics. One of our inside cabin's biggest surprise was the bathroom; more particularly, we loved the surprisingly spacious and practical shower. We were surprised to see our stateroom could accommodate up to 4 people; it would have been very cramped in the cabin at full capacity unless the additional 2 guests were small children. Instead, I almost always book an inside cabin guarantee because it’s the cheapest option and I’d rather save my money on specialty dining or excursions.

Carnival Cruise Line suites

Suites are also able to accommodate more passengers and standard staterooms, so if you want your entire family in one room, they're a great option. Otherwise, you'll have to consider an ocean view room or two adjoining staterooms. In general, interior cabins on Carnival range from about 155 to 185 square feet, making them more spacious than the inside rooms on some major competitors, like Norwegian Cruise Line! Onboard Norwegian Encore, for instance, an inside cabin measures just 135 square feet.

What is a Havana Interior?

Most cruise ship beds feature mattresses that are rather thin and can feel lumpy from so many nights of use. Perhaps it was because the ship was new, but the mattresses felt thick and supportive, giving us a great night’s sleep. Those looking for the largest cabins on any Carnival ship will want to look at their suite options.

Havana Extended Cabana

Monica thought one of the smartest things she packed on her cruise was a reusable water bottle. This meant she didn't have to shell out $4 for a 1.5-liter water bottle. The nearest drinking fountain was about a five-minute walk away, or she could've refilled from her stateroom's bathroom sink.

I went with a 9-ounce filet mignon, which was cooked to perfection. It came alongside several sauces and sides of broccoli and crinkle-cut fries for $49 ($15 for kids). Another excellent dinner during my voyage occurred at Rudi's Seagrill (Deck 8), an upscale seafood restaurant named for chef and pop artist Rudi Sodamin. The lobster macaroni and cheese was the perfect indulgence to start my meal, and I followed it up with a delicious crab cake. As a sucker for soft-serve ice cream, I was a frequent visitor to the three soft-serve ice cream and frozen yogurt machines on decks 8, 16 and 17.

Balcony cabins

This was extremely disruptive and added to the already loud atmosphere. Other venues in the area include the Marina Bar for cocktails and coffee, complimentary Italian restaurant Cucina del Capitano and for-fee seafood eatery Rudi's Seagrill, created by food pop artist chef Rudi Sodamin. We also noted the number of outlets and USB plugs available on the vanity, including 4 USB plugs and 3 additional 120 VT outlets. Older ships only have a limited number of outlets, which can be an issue in this day and age of electronics and devices. Mikhaila and Monica agreed that the complimentary wine, decor, and an in-room coffee station created an atmosphere of luxury and were worth the extra $20 each night.

Interior Staterooms

Depending on the configuration, some cabins can sleep up to three guests. Either way, I find that I don't spend much time in my cabin when I am cruising, especially on a brand-new ship! Unless I am in a luxurious suite, most of my time is spent exploring the cruise ship or adventuring in the ports of call. Having a comfortable place to sleep and shower is most important, and every cabin onboard a cruise ship will provide that.

This jumped to 46% on Carnival Panorama and 61% on Carnival Jubilee (Note that these calculations include suites, too). Some have spa-related perks or access to exclusive lounges and pools. Room decor varies, but noise level can be an issue due to proximity to ship’s activities. However, the Pullman beds, which are available in some Upper/Lower staterooms, may not be ideal for adults as they are smaller and less comfortable than the regular beds. Compared to other cabin types, Interior rooms are the cheapest and smallest on board.

For that reason, only guests aged 12 and over can stay in a Havana cabin. The priority bookings for the other Cloud 9 Spa services only apply on day one – you can book for any point during the cruise, but once 6 pm hits on embarkation day those slots open up to all guests. These perks only apply to the first two guests in a Cloud 9 Spa room though, so if you’ve booked a room with three adults then someone has to miss out. The Thermal Suites include dry heat chambers, steam chambers and a hydrotherapy pool, which you can use at any time during the cruise.

It features a counter, shelves for toiletries, a commode and standing shower. There was also a makeup mirror that folded in and out to save space. As mentioned, Carnival says the interior cabin measures 185 square feet. It was fine for two adults who spent most of their time out and about the ship and in port.

All types of smoking are forbidden in cabins and on cabin balconies. Of the performances, I most enjoyed two main-theater shows that are also found on some other ships in the fleet. Camp Ocean also has an interactive space wall, where astronauts lead kids on virtual expeditions, complete with a ceiling that lights up like the night sky to show the constellations.

In fact, the Mardi Gras doesn’t have any Interior rooms with an obstructed view at all. Otherwise, the room is a fairly standard Interior layout and will have two twin beds that can be converted into a King, as well as some rooms having extra Pullmans or sofa beds for kids. Some Interior Upper/Lower rooms actually have small porthole windows.
